One of the great things about life is the ability to try new things. And sometimes they work out and sometimes they don’t. Canon has truly pushed the envelope with their new generation RF lenses. I am beyond thrilled with their RF 45 mm F/1.2 as well as their RF 85 mm F/2. I’ve tried both their RF 800mm and RF 600mm F11 lenses, and while they are relatively affordable, relatively light, they are also fairly expensive and fairly big, and ultimately hugely compromised. A fixed aperture of F11 is very limiting. I did manage to make a few memorable images with them. But they’re going back. Not keepers.

The first three shots are all of what we call Buio’s Rock, a notable slab of granite high on Sterling Peak, visible with the naked eye from our deck. It was named after our golden retriever that died in 2013. The last three shots were in the woods below our deck. Sniper shots of details made notable by shafts of sunlight.
