Both Books Land at Bear Pond
Surfing the Interstates and Boomerang together on the shelf in Stowe
It’s official. On or about May 7, both Surfing the Interstates and Boomerang will be available at Bear Pond Books in Stowe, Vermont — side by side on the shelf, where I still can’t quite believe they belong.
Surfing the Interstates: A 1973 Hitchhiking Memoir is the first book of The Spaces Between trilogy. Boomerang: Before + After Thumb Out is its companion — a prequel and sequel in one volume. Part One goes back four years to the forces that put a young man on the road with eighty dollars in his pocket. Part Two picks up when he comes home and spends seven more years learning how to stop running.
Together, the two books form the complete story of that journey: what launched him, what the road gave him, and what it finally cost him to stop.
Bear Pond Books has been a Vermont institution for decades — the kind of independent bookstore that reminds you why independent bookstores matter. Seeing these covers on their shelf feels like the clearest marker yet that this project has become real.
And the trilogy continues.
I’m currently writing Sahara Dust, Book Two of The Spaces Between, which I’m hoping to publish later this year. Green Mountain Flash — the Vermont book — will close out the trilogy after that.
Where to find the books starting May 7:
Bear Pond Books — Stowe, Vermont (paperback, in person)
Amazon / Kindle Direct Publishing — paperback, hardcover, Kindle
Audible, Spotify, Apple Books — Surfing the Interstates audiobook
Ko-fi — ePub and audiobook bundles (direct from me; highest margin, most appreciated)
substack.andrejdsp.com — serialized chapters, essays, photography, and music
If you’re anywhere near Stowe on or after May 7, stop in, pick up a copy, and tell Bear Pond you heard about it here. Supporting an independent bookstore and a Vermont writer in the same transaction — that’s the kind of wave worth catching.
More soon.
